LIGHT IS SHADOW
Modern society, in its pursuit of safety, efficiency, and hygiene, has steadily pushed “shadow” out of our everyday lives. This endless brightness makes life convenient, but it can also disturb the natural rhythms of mind and body, also leading to excessive energy consumption.Shadow was never just an inconvenience.
It carries a quietude that calms us, and a subtlety that awakens our imagination toward what cannot be seen―the values that exist as the reverse side of brightness.
This exhibition emerges from an approach of “designing light and shadow as equivalents.“Our chosen material is inorganic electroluminescence (inorganic EL), a familiar technology often used in everyday products.Focusing on its distinctive property of being “freely cut” ,we reinterpret this material from a new design perspective.
By making simple incisions in a single sheet, we generate form. This minimal fabrication process uses the material without waste and allows the product to remain flat during transport, achieving a high degree of product rationality.Softly glowing with low power consumption, this material quietly proposes another way light might exist in our energy-saturated age.
